Design
and Appearance:
The
following factors will affect the appearance
and appreciation of the Sedum roof. Please
discuss the roof design as early as possible
with Celtic Turf so you are clear what to
expect, and also to ensure optimal solutions
are achieved for your green roof.
Physical
Implications:
South
Facing roofs can be hotter and dryer than
other roofs. This may affect the colour,
growth rate and height of the plants. Sedum
are chosen for use on roofs as they can
cope with this but please note that this
will cause differences in appearance. Please
consider making provision for irrigation
especially if there is a sloped south facing
roof.
Why
Sedum?
Sedums
are Pollution removing low-growing succulent
plants with extremely thick fleshy leaf
growth and thick stems, they are particularly
suitable for growing in the very inhospitable
conditions which are found upon every roof.
All
plant life on a sedum roof must withstand
periods of very low rainfall, strong drying
winds, extreme heat and sunshine plus all
other extreme weather conditions.
They
have shallow roots and absorb morning dew
to rehydrate during extended sunny and very
dry windy periods.
